Michael McGrath’s extensive trial experience and professional background serve his clients well. A graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a degree in Economics, he earned his Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School in 1995. Mike is a member of the Southwest Bar Association, where he served as president, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Illinois State Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
As a former Assistant State’s Attorney for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, Mike prosecuted hundreds of cases as a trial attorney and argued more than 25 cases on appeal before the Illinois Appellate Court. His service included felony review for Cook County’s Fifth Municipal District and Special Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago.
Mike’s current practice is chiefly in the areas of municipal law, school law, and labor law. As a village attorney, Mike provides counsel to municipalities and serves as an adjudication officer. As the lead of the litigation team at the firm, Mike handles civil rights and excessive force cases in defense of the police departments and elected officials for the municipalities and school districts represented by the firm.
Mike is married to Jill Casey, and they have 5 children.
